To witness this natural wonder, visitors can obtain Haleakala Crater tickets, which are competitively priced at $1. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance, ensuring you secure your spot. For those seeking last-minute opportunities, a limited number of tickets are released 2 days in advance. Timed entry from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM allows you to experience the sunrise at its most captivating moment. Don't miss this remarkable event during your visit to the park.


Haleakala Crater tickets are competitive, so make sure you book in advance to secure your spot. 

Hiking

Haleakalā National Park offers various hiking opportunities, including:


  • Pā Ka‘oao: A short 0.4-mile round trip hike with minimal elevation change, located near the visitor center.

  • Keonehe‘ehe‘e: This trail descends into the crater and spans 11 miles in total. Notable points of interest along the trail include the crater floor, Pele's Paint Pot, and Kawilinau. Be aware that if you hike to the trail's end, you may need to hitchhike back to the trailhead.


It's essential to plan your hikes carefully, as the way out is downhill, while the return journey involves a steep uphill climb. Always ensure that you choose a trail that matches your fitness level and capabilities to have a safe and enjoyable hiking experience in the park.

Park Hours

Haleakalā National Park is generally open at all times, providing visitors with access to its stunning landscapes. However, it's important to note that the park may close during extreme weather conditions for safety reasons. Additionally, if you plan to visit the summit district from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM to witness the breathtaking sunrise, you'll need a reservation.
